Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Concurrent Substance Abuse and Mental Health Disorders at the Innlandet Hospital Trust announces a PhD fellowship to work with a Norwegian Research Council funded project on immunology of depression in alcohol use disorders (DARCY).
The DARCY project is a collaboration between Innlandet Hospital Trust, University of Oslo and several substance abuse treatment institutions in Norway and Nepal with partners in the USA. Successful candidates will enjoy an exciting and growing research environment based at the Norwegian National Advisory Board, Hamar, Norway.
The DARCY project investigates the role of neuroimmune parameters in the co-occurrence of depression and alcohol use disorders. Using longitudinal design, the planned studies will establish the relative significance of neuroimmune parameters in the occurrence, progression and outcome of alcohol use disorders and major depression in human clinical populations.
Qualifications
In order to apply for the PhD Candidate position, the applicant has to hold a master’s degree or equivalent education (eg., medicine/clinical psychology/human biology), with an academic record with a weighted average grade of B or higher, in accordance with the University of Oslo’s grading system.
The candidate will be enrolled to the doctoral program at the Medical Faculty, University of Oslo.
Demonstrated experience and strong motivation to conduct biomedical research is wanted. The candidate shall spend approximately one year in Nepal collecting data from clinical facilities. Prospective candidates having Nepalese background, particularly females and candidates with ethnic minorities are encouraged to apply.
The candidate should have a high level of personal responsibility, initiative, motivation and ability to work in a project team as well as independently. Excellent skills in written and spoken English as well as some experiences of quantitative data analysis are required.
